A clear, step-by-step explanation of how to log into Ledger Live using your Ledger hardware device, plus troubleshooting and safety tips.
"Ledger Live Login" isn't a username/password sign-in — it's a secure hardware-backed authentication flow. You authenticate by connecting your Ledger device (Nano X / Nano S Plus), entering your device PIN, and approving actions on the device screen. Ledger Live is the official application (desktop & mobile) that interfaces with your hardware wallet; private keys remain inside the device at all times.
Download Ledger Live only from ledger.com/start or the official app stores. Avoid third-party downloads or links from search ads.
Plug your Ledger device into your computer via USB (or pair via Bluetooth for Nano X mobile). Open Ledger Live — the app should detect your device automatically.
When prompted, enter your PIN directly on the Ledger device. This PIN prevents unauthorized local access. Note: the PIN is entered on the device screen/buttons, not in the app, preserving security against infected hosts.
Ledger Live will request permission to interact with your device. Confirm the pairing or connection on the device when its screen prompts you. Only after approval will your accounts and balances be visible in Ledger Live.
If you use an optional passphrase (a 25th word), enter it as configured — either on the device or in Ledger Live. Each passphrase produces an independent wallet. Keep it secret and remember it's case- and space-sensitive.
After the device is unlocked and approved, Ledger Live reads public account data (addresses, balances, transaction history) and displays it locally. All signing requests (sending transactions, changing settings) must be explicitly approved on the Ledger device. Private keys never leave the secure element inside your Ledger device.
Entering the wrong PIN three times will reset the device to factory settings, requiring recovery from your 24-word recovery phrase. If you forget your PIN, restore from your recovery phrase on a new device.
If Ledger Live shows zero balances but the blockchain has funds, try refreshing the account, re-scanning, or ensuring the correct account derivation path/app is installed on the device.
Ledger Live is intended for interactive desktop/mobile use. For automated or headless environments, use Ledger's developer tools and libraries that support secure signing workflows — but only after thoroughly assessing security trade-offs. Never expose your recovery phrase or private keys to automated services.
